How it works

From account to receipt, and what happens if something goes wrong

A purchase on Ayamaz moves through a few clear steps. This page explains each one, including the cases where a provider fails or does not answer.

The journey

  1. Step 1: Create your account

Download the app and sign up. On supported devices you can sign in with Google or Apple. You will use a 4-digit transaction PIN to confirm purchases.

  2. Step 2: Top up your wallet

Open Wallet to see your dedicated account number. Transfer from any Nigerian bank app. Your wallet is credited after our payment partner confirms the transfer.

  3. Step 3: Choose a service

Pick airtime, data, electricity, cable TV, an exam PIN, or a bulk top-up, and enter the details.

  4. Step 4: Confirm the purchase

The app shows the exact amount you will pay. Confirm with your PIN and the amount is reserved in your wallet while the order goes to the provider.

  5. Step 5: The service is delivered

When the provider confirms, the reserved amount is spent, the service is delivered, and you get a receipt with a reference number.

  6. Step 6: Track it

Every purchase appears in Transactions with its status and reference. You can share the receipt as an image.

When a purchase does not go to plan

What each status means

Your money is reserved, not lost, while a purchase is in progress. Here is what happens in each case.

Successful

The provider confirmed delivery. The reserved amount is spent.

What to do: Nothing. Keep your receipt and reference.

Pending

The provider has not given a final answer yet. The amount stays reserved in your wallet. We check with the provider several times over about fifteen minutes, and we also accept the provider's own delivery notifications.

What to do: Wait for the result or the notification. Do not buy again in the meantime. If it stays pending, contact support with the reference.

Failed

The provider rejected or could not complete the order, or no provider was available. The reserved amount is released back to your wallet automatically.

What to do: Nothing. The transaction shows as failed or reversed in your history. If you cannot see your money back, contact support with the reference.

Reversed

The reserved amount was returned to your wallet. Reversals go to your Ayamaz wallet, not to a bank account or card. Any cashback or referral reward linked to a reversed purchase is reversed as well.

What to do: Use the returned balance for another purchase.

If a provider never replies

In rare cases a provider does not answer our request at all. After a short verification period we treat the order as successful, because in that situation the provider has most often delivered the service even though we did not receive its reply.

If you did not receive what you paid for, report it with the transaction reference. We will investigate with the provider and, where the service was not delivered, credit the amount to your wallet.

How to report a problem

  1. Open Transactions in the app and note the reference and the time.
  2. Contact support with the reference, the phone number, meter or smartcard you used, and what you expected.
  3. We review the order with the provider. If the service was not delivered, the amount is credited to your wallet.

Delivered services, or purchases sent to a wrong number, meter or smartcard, generally cannot be refunded. The Refund Policy has the full rules.
